GREENPRINTS ALLIANCE ANNOUNCEs TRAILFEST 2017 TO RETURN SATURDAY MAY 6TH FEATURING MUSICAL HEADLINER: DEXATEENS

WOODSTOCK, GA - Greenprints Alliance is pleased to announce our ninth annual Trailfest benefit event on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This year’s Trailfest returns to the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village Event Green on Market and Elm Street in beautiful Downtown Woodstock. The event is adjacent to the start of the Noonday Creek Trail, which totals approximately 1.5 miles of multi-use concrete trail. The day’s events include outdoor activities, live music, food, beer and community.

The Plae Hard 5K and fun run will kick off the day’s festivities early in the morning.  These out and back races utilize the scenic Noonday Creek Trail. Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers and overall age group finishers. The 1-mile Fun Run is for children under 12 years of age. Registration details will be announced soon. Following the conclusion of the race, a mountain bike inspired event will take place at Rope Mill Park with SORBA Woodstock. Prior to the music starting we will be introducing the community to our new bike share program through Zagster.

At 1 PM, Trailfest continues on the event green with an exciting line-up of up and coming original artists that you do not want to miss. Kicking off the event is downtown Woodstock based Aquashade, followed by Paige Hargrove, the Bitteroots, the Georgia Floods, Josh Roberts and the Hinges and headlining this year’s event is Dexateens.

The Dexateens have always been a ‘super group’ of sorts, spanning Alabama’s punk and rock scenes and from there the song has remained the same. The live show is finely tuned to that off a howling SR-71 Blackbird set to the soundtrack of dueling stereo’s pumping The Quadrajets and Waylon Jennings in one ornate cacophony. The Dexateens are exactly what rock and roll has been missing for nearly 5 years, back to stake claim on what they helped begin and perhaps break it down only to rebuild it stronger and better than ever to shake off the poseurs and malcontents.

While Trailfest always makes for a Saturday of exciting music, socializing and camaraderie, there is a greater purpose. Trailfest is the single largest annual fundraiser for Greenprints Alliance, a non-profit organization based in Woodstock, GA, which has an annual public and private contribution goal of $100,000 to advocate for and fund green infrastructure projects as part of the award-winning Greenprints Master Plan of trails, pathways and inter-connectivity around Woodstock, GA and Cherokee County. While Trailfest is free to enter thanks to the support of our partners, opportunities will be available for visitors to donate or get involved with the organization. Festivities run from 8 AM – till, rain or shine. Parking is available all around Downtown Woodstock.

ABOUT GREENPRINTS ALLIANCE:

In 2007, through the vision of the Mayor Donnie Henriques and the City Council, a park master plan was commissioned by the City of Woodstock. Through a citizen-based planning process, Ecos Environmental Design produced the award winning Greenprints Project Master Plan. The focus on this plan was to use the miles of riparian and natural corridors in our area to lay out a 60+ mile network of multi-use trails connecting present and future greenspaces and providing a different mode of travel within our city.

The mission of Greenprints Alliance is to advocate for a sustainable greenspace and trail network which enhances the City of Woodstock’s community, natural and economic resources for all generations by promoting the benefits of a green infrastructure system to the general public. We also work to implement the City of Woodstock’s vision adopted through The Greenprints Project plan document and any similar green infrastructure systems adopted by the City of Woodstock or adjacent jurisdictions.

Steeped in rock ‘n’ roll’s building blocks – country, R&B, soul and gospel – The Delta Saints’ second full-length effort explores influences like Jack White, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses and Led Zeppelin. Producer/engineer/mixer and Third Man Records alum, Eddie Spear [Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Neil Young] provided a ghostly, psychedelic atmosphere at Nashville’s Sputnik Sound studios, yielding a sound unlike anything they have created before.

The Northside Hospital Cherokee 5K race will be an out and back race and awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers and overall age group finishers. The 1 mile Fun Run is for children under 12 years of age. Registration details will be announced soon.
